Obasanjo laments Nigeria’s economy not moving the way it should

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that the Nigerian economy is not moving the way it should.

Obasanjo said this when he spoke at the ongoing Afreximbank Annual Meetings in Abuja on Thursday, June 26.

“We are not where we should be economically. For over three or four decades, Nigeria has taken two steps forward, one step aside, and maybe one or two steps backward,” he said.

Obasanjo questioned the idea that Africa’s “Lions,” a reference to its most powerful economies, are actually on the move while considering the continent’s potential for growth. He asserted that many of them—including Nigeria—are not progressing at the pace required to spark a continental renaissance.
