A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight on Friday crashed into residential district near Karachi airport.
The crashed aircraft which was en route from Lahore to Karachi was carrying over 100 passengers, according to local reports.
The plane crashed in the populated Model Colony area located on the outskirts of the city, approximately two kilometers from Jinnah International Airport.
A spokesman for PIA said the A320 Airbus had 107 people on board, as quoted by Reuters. He explained there were 99 passengers and eight crew members.
The mayor of Karachi also confirmed there were no survivors from the crashed plane.
It is not yet clear how many fatalities there were among those affected on the ground, but rescue workers said around 15-20 have been helped out from under rubble, according to the local Geo news channel.
Speaking at the site of the tragedy, Mayor Wasim Akhtar said the plane went down in a crowded neighborhood on the edge of the airport and nobody on board is believed to have survived the crash.
It is feared there may be more casualties because the 15-year-old Airbus A320 crash landed in the heavily populated area.
