A Police inspector, identified as Bassey Asuquo, has reportedly committed su!cide in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.
This incident occurred on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at approximately 1:50 am. The inspector committed suicide while on special duty.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the officer was assigned to the area on a special assignment and was a member of the 28 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Umuahia, Abia State.
Before the incident occured, there had been reports of the officer acting strangely.
Reports say his Unit Commander ordered the retrieval and storage of Inspector Asuquo’s rifle in the Sarkin-Pawa Police Division’s armory as a precaution.
Subsequent investigation, however, showed that the deceased officer had obtained a rifle that belonged to another officer who was sleeping at the time.
Asuquo allegedly took the gun and shot himself in the head, killing himself.
The General Hospital in Sarkin-Pawa received his remains, and Inspector Titus Bulus has been arrested for interrogation as part of a continuing investigation.
