The loyalists of one of the strongest contenders of the 2023 presidential race, Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State, have started opening campaign offices across the country even though Nigeria just came out of presidential election which held early this year.
A political group under the aegis of Nasiriyya Organisation Support Group (NOSG), has opened a campaign office in Jos, Plateau state to kick-start the presidential campaign of Governor El-rufai ahead of 2023.
Speaking at the opening, the NOSG’s national chairman, Ibrahim Garkuwan-Rijau, said the group decided to commence putting structures across Nigeria at an early stage to enable them fully drive their quest to success.
“In the North we have started late. If in Lagos state people started calling and supporting Malam Nasiru to contest, why can’t we do it here?” he queried.
He said Governor El-Rufai’s administrative and political antecedents were enough points to support his quest to becoming the next president of Nigeria.
Garkuwan-Rijau, who is also the north-west zonal deputy chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said El-Rufai is the leader Nigeria desires to have in 2023.
On his part, the Plateau state chairperson of the group, Nafisatu Omar, described Governor El-Rufai as a detribalised and non-religious bigot suitable to be the country’s number one citizen.
“Malam Nasir El-Rufai is the best person for Nigeria in 2023 because he is not corrupt, he is not a religious bigot, not tribalistic as seen in his governance of Kaduna state, embracing everybody,” she said.
Highlight of the event was the official opening of office, inauguration of Hajiya Omar as Plateau state chairperson of NOSG, and other state officers.
Meanwhile, a former president of the Ijaw National Congress, Prof Kimse Okoko, has said that for the sake of unity of Nigeria, no other region should contest the 2023 presidency with the Igbo.
Okoko said the push by some northern politicians for the region to retain power is provocative, even as he called for Nigeria to be restructured along the lines of true federalism before 2023.
