Sacked Bayelsa Governor, Diri says he trusts the Judiciary, reveals next step

The embattled Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has reacted to the election tribunal judgement nullifying his victory at the state November 16, 2019 gubernatorial election.

Diri who spoke after the news broke expressed confidence and trust in the judiciary and revealed that he would appeal the judgement.

He said, “We trust in the judiciary and we are appealing the judgement. With God on our side, we will get justice.

“This is a court of first instance and I have instructed our lawyers to file an appeal. We have a right of appeal even up to the Supreme Court.”

The tribunal ruled in the early hours of today that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wrongfully excluded the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) governorship candidate from the November 16, 2019 election.

The court further ordered INEC to conduct a bye-election within 90 days.
