Theresa to remain British PM, wins confidence vote

The Prime Minister of Britain has won the election of the Vote of No Confidence passed on her. With the result, May will remain the PM.

She won the election won with a majority of 83, with 63% of Conservative MPs backing her and 37% voting against her.

However, while supporters urged the party to move on, critics said losing the support of a third of MPs was “devastating”. The secret ballot was triggered by 48 of her MPs angry at her Brexit policy, which they say betrays the 2016 referendum result.

In a defiant statement made outside her Downing Street office, the prime minister said she was “ready to finish the job” by taking Britain out of the European Union next March. Before the vote, May told her MPs  she expects to step down before the next scheduled election in 2022.
