Those behind killings in South-East do not want Kanu released – IPOB says

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have accused politicians of recruiting individuals responsible for the killings, kidnappings, and property destruction in the South-East.

The perpetrators of the crime in the region, according to the group, were hired to defame IPOB and the Eastern Security Network.

The group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, stated in a statement on Saturday that those behind the savage acts were individuals who did not want Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the group’s incarcerated leader, to be released.

According to Powerful, their major goal was to give the false impression that Kanu’s supporters were aggressive.

IPOB, he said, would safeguard all people residing in Biafra land, even non-indigenes.

“We desire to say unambiguously that those responsible for the crimes in the South-East are neither IPOB members nor ESN operatives,” he stated.

“The offenders are crooks who have been hired by politicians in order to demonize us.

“IPOB members will not engage in acts that are harmful to the people we are fighting to free. We are not terrorists, and we cannot resort to terrorism on the spur of the moment.

“We want to make it very obvious to everyone that anyone acting in the name of IPOB or an ESN operator in Biafra land does not want Biafra to come.”

The organization also stated that the offenders are collaborating with security forces to criminalize IPOB, and that they should expect to pay a price for their crimes because “we will not let anyone who inflicts agony and sorrow on our people go free.”
