Update: Body of former councillor’s seven-year-old son recovered three days after being swept away by flood in Niger State

Mohammed Ashraff, the seven year old boy whose body was swept away by floodwaters in Emiliman Nassara, Nasarafu ward, Bida Local Government Area of Niger State, has been found and laid to rest.

ExpressInfo earlier reported that Ashraff, the son of a former Nasarafu Ward Councillor, Hon. Mohammed Usman, went missing on Thursday, June 26, 2025, during a flood incident.

If you can remember, the incident occurred after a heavy rainstorm that lasted from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. The boy had reportedly been sent on an errand shortly after the rain subsided.

His body was found on Saturday, June 28, at Batavovogi, behind the FM Radio Station in Bida.

His father confirmed the recovery and described the flood as a continuing disaster for the community, citing destruction to homes, bridges, culverts, and businesses.

Usman appealed to the Niger State Government to expedite the construction of the 1-kilometre Man Musa Kodogi/Nasarafu Road awarded to Arab Contractors, urging Governor Umar Bago to mobilise the contractor to the site to prevent further tragedies.

“Since we lost the boy on Thursday, we didn’t stop searching. We increased the number of volunteers, and fortunately, we found his body today, Saturday. Alhamdulillah,” Usman said.

He thanked the media for their support in publicising the incident and helping raise awareness during the search.

Ashraff was buried according to Islamic rites at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
