#WhereIsKyari: Presidency Finally speaks on Abba Kyari’s Death Rumours

The presidency has finally reacted to rumours that Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari has died from complications from coronavirus (COVID-19).

The social media has been on fire since yesterday after investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, reported that a high ranking member of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet has died from coronavirus complications.

Even though, Kemi didn’t disclose the name of the official, citing national security, Nigerians concluded that it is likely to be Abba Kyari who tested positive for coronavirus.

With the long silence from the president’s team, and the Lagos state commissioner for health saying that he didn’t know where Kyari is in Lagos, this morning, that hashtag, #WhereIsKyari began to trend on Twitter after Lola Omotayo-Okoye, wife of singer Peter Okoye, did a video asking the government to come out with the truth and tell Nigerians where the Chief of Staff is.

See the video below.

Well, someone from President Buhari’s team finally broke the silence.

Bashir Ahmad, the personal assistant to the President on New Media reacted, saying that Kyari is in Lagos and responding well to treatment, and also urging Lola to put the same energy in looking for other Covid-19 patients.

Bashir Ahmad wrote: “Though I really don’t know who this Lola is, but someone close to her should pls tell her to leave Abba Kyari to recuperate in peace, he’s in Lagos & responding well to treatment. If it’s caring she should also use the same energy to ask the whereabouts of other #COVID19 patients.”
