WTO: Okonjo-Iweala meets President Buhari at the Presidential Villa

President Muhammadu Buhari is at the moment in a closed door meeting with former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who is Nigeria’s candidate for World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General position.

According to reports, the Monday morning meeting at the presidential villa is in connection to Okonjo-Iweala’s ambition to become the DG of WTO.

Also at the meeting are the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo; Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubair Dada; and the Minister of State, Industry Trade and Investment, Maryam Katagun

Okonjo-Iweala is also on Twitter’s board of directors and is a special envoy for the World Health Organization’s Covid-19 fight.

The 66-year-old economist has a 25-year career as a development economist at the World Bank, eventually becoming its number two.

Okonjo-Iweala made to the final stage of the race and has Korean Yoo Myun-hee as her last challenger.
