“EFCC, your boss is an offline Yahoo boy,” Nigerians react to reported arrest of Magu

The Department of State Services (DSS) was reported to have arrested the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

Magu was stopped in traffic while moving out of the Wuse II Annex of the EFCC in Abuja and an invitation was extended to him.

Magu was reportedly on his way to the Force Headquarters and pleaded with an officer from FCID who met with him that he had a scheduled appointment.

But he was told it was more important to answer a call from a panel inviting him for questioning.

The panel is said to be sitting at the Banquet Hall wing of the Presidential Villa. Magu arrived at the Villa about 1.35pm and was later joined by his lawyer, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo.

Reaction to the incident, Magu’s S.A. on Media, Tony Amokeodo, told Channels Television on Monday that the EFCC boss was not arrested but only invited to answer questions regarding the allegations against the agency.

According to him, Magu was invited to appear before a panel of the Federal Government set up to investigate the allegations of corruption levelled against him.

Nigerians did not waste time in using social media to react to the incident. One called Magu an offline ‘yahoo boy’ and even challenged the EFCC to give Nigerians update on the arrest as they usually do with arrest involving the agency.
