Man jumps from 7th floor to his death as EFCC storm 1004 Estate in Lagos (Photos)

A yet to be identified young man has reportedly died after he jumped from the 7th floor of the 1004 Estate in Lagos on Thursday morning after the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the area.

According to reports, EFCC officials arrived the Estate to arrest some suspected fraudsters.

Eyewitnesses say the operatives went from one apartment to the other, knocking, and if denied access, they would break into the apartment. 

Eyewitnesses further stated that upon hearing that the operatives were around the Estate, the deceased allegedly became apprehensive and jumped from the 7th floor.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has reacted to the news, saying that “operatives of the Commission went for an operation at the 1004 Estate in Lagos today, February 4, 2021 and left without incident.

“It was later discovered from residents that a young man in one of the wings of the estate jumped from the 7th floor, probably out of fright, and sustained injuries.

“The incident is being investigated by the Bar Beach Division of the Nigeria Police. Wilson Uwujaren Head, Media & Publicity 4 February, 2021”

While giving update about the incident, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed to the press that the victim was a guest at the estate and was never the target of the EFCC.

He said the police will try to trace his identity so as to relay the incident to his family members.

”We recorded a case of yet to be identified young man that jumped from the 7th floor of the 1004 Estate, VI, Lagos, today at about 8.45am when operatives of the EFCC were on operation at the Estate.

“Based on preliminary findings, the deceased was not even a target of the operatives. And he was a guest at the estate. Its quite unfortunate.  We will try and trace his identity so as to relay the incident to the family and take necessary police action.” Adejobi’s statement read.
