Police nab man who works with an inmate in Kirikiri prison to send threat messages to residents

An ex-convict who usually uses a phone number to send threat messages to residents in the state has been nabbed by officers of the Lagos police command.

Recently, a Twitter user raised an alarm on the internet after she received deaths from a phone number.

In a new development, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, at a press briefing held on December 21 revealed that investigations by the police led to the arrest of one Smart Richard who hails from Delta State.

The police commissioner pointed out that Smart is an ex-convict who had served a five-year jail term at Kirikiri Medium Correctional Center. The suspect identified one Kingsley Richard ‘m’ currently serving jail term at Kirikiri Correctional Center as his partner in the act.

“Further investigation revealed that while Smart collated telephone numbers and operated an online wallet account through which they collected their blackmail money, Kingsley while still in prison sent the threat messages and makes threat calls to the collated numbers. The Command is currently working with the Nigerian Correctional Service towards extending investigations to Kingsley Richard,” CP Alabi said.
