See How Govt Sec Schools are complying with Covid-19 protocols as schools resume today

Public and private schools resumed on Monday, January 18, in many states of Federation, including Abuja and Lagos.

This comes amid the frightening second wave of COVID-19 pandemic with Nigeria recording over one thousand infections daily.

Some schools visited on Monday, according to Punch, partially complied with COVID-19 protocols released by the Federal Government.

Some schools visiting in Karu, Abuja Municipal Area Council include: Government Secondary School, Karu; Hayatu Islam International Academy, Karu; Shalom Children Academy; Prime Scholars’ School and Total Academy among others.

More compliance was noticed among private schools.

At the GSS, Karu, two spots for washing of hands were provided at the school gate and only one female member of staff was seen washing her hands before entering the premises within 15 minutes watch. Other members of staff and students did not do so.

There was also no temperature check for those entering the premises.

Students and members of staff were, however, seen wearing their face masks before entering. Many of the students were seen bringing the masks out from either their pockets or school bags at the school gate.

In Lagos State, the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, visited some schools to monitor their compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

Some of the schools she visited in the Agege area are Diary Farm Senior Secondary School, District Junior College, Sango Junior Secondary School, Agege, Sango Senior Secondary School.

All the schools visited by the Commissioner had wash hand basins, infrared thermometers and the students in the classrooms used their face masks.

However, some students in Junior Secondary School 2 in some of the schools who were not supposed to be in school on Monday were seeing loitering at the school gate without their face masks.

Adefisayo said a staggered school resumption was in place to forestall the spread of the virus.
