WTO DG: Okonjo-Iweala lists world leaders who has helped her

Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has appreciated world leaders and organizations that have supported since she entered the race to become the Director General of World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Among those she mentioned are:

President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa;
All the African Heads of State;
African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat;
ECOWAS Heads of State;
Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS);
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados;
European Union;
Leaders and Officials of WTO.

Her appreciation tweet on Saturday reads:

I look forward to finalizing the process of @WTO DG. My gratitude to HE @CyrilRamaphosa, all African Heads of State, the AUC Chair. Special thanks to ECOWAS Heads of State for outstanding support. I thank @PressACP, @Miaamormottley, EU, all Officials & Leaders of WTO Members.

Earlier Okonjo-Iweala had appreciated the United States for endorsing her for the WTO top job and also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerians for their support.

Following the withdrawal of her last contender from South Korea, Okonjo-Iweala is on her way to being named the first woman and African to head the WTO.

The emergence of Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonji Iweala as the first African woman to occupy this position of DG-WTO is a lesson to the world Africans in particular that people should be given an opportunity to showcase their wisdom and knowledge in what they know best, without discrimination and nepotism. CONGRATULATIONS the new DG-WTO.
