Grammy-nominated Afrobeat artiste, Made Kuti, has sparked conversation online after sharing his views on materialism — particularly the need for owning multiple cars.
In a recent interview with Pulse, the grandson of Fela and son of Femi Kuti said he finds it strange when people take pride in accumulating cars they barely use.
“For example, how many cars do you need to drive? I genuinely don’t understand why you need 7, 8 cars,” he said. “They are depreciating assets. In the next couple of years, they will depreciate.”
Made credited his minimalist mindset to his upbringing, adding that his father, Femi Kuti, was intentional about how he raised them.
He emphasized that while some may enjoy luxury and material possessions, his values lie more in simplicity and purpose than excess.
The statement has since stirred mixed reactions, especially on social media, with many praising his perspective and others defending their taste for luxury.
